High-tech boats shipped safely across Europe

August 1st, 2006

Heavy freight for SDV Projects: this summer, the project logistics specialists at Geis Group transported two sailing yachts measuring 25 metres each and weighing 24 tons from Valencia to Kiel.

"BMW ORACLE Racing" (USA) and "Shosholoza" (South Africa), both with high-tech boats, are considered the big contenders at this year's America's Cup, the world's most famous sailing regatta. The venue for the competition, which is in June and July, is Valencia, Spain.

German fans already got a foretaste of this great sailing sport event: during the first German Sailing Grand Prix, the "BMW ORACLE Racing" (USA) and "Shosholoza" (South Africa) teams competed against each other on the Baltic Sea along the Kiel waterfront. SDV Projects, in cooperation with SDV Spain, made sure that the teams had access to their own equipment here, too. The yachts arrived on the MS Helen in Kiel where SDV Projects employees unloaded the freight with a crane. After the teams had stepped the mast and set the sails SDV Projects handled the import and security formalities.
